Stages of the Adoption Journey

Adoption is a life long journey with stages that emerge across the individual and family
lifespan. As time progresses, adoptive parents have to accept the reality that adoption
is based on a complex developmental trauma. Adoption does not heal infertility—that grief
has to be dealt with on a separate plane. The adopted child is always aware of the slender but
strong thread of commitment that created this family. The family built by adoption It is a real
family but not the equivalent of a biological family.

embarrassed...silly confessions of a soccer mom

I was ready. I had the shin guards, the jersey, the extra, extra small Umbro shorts,
and the purple, knee high socks. Practice was to begin promptly at 5pm at Field 1.
I ended my workday early, arrived at school with plenty of time to spare, and proudly
walked into my 3 year old son's daycare so we could dress for practice. He was excited,
ready to play soccer–even though he had no idea what soccer was. Our first team sport.
What a thrill. It was time to embrace my role as soccer mom in the minvan. I was ready,
and so was he...or so I thought.
