About Dr. Hanevold
 

Wendy Haus Hanevold, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in working with families (parents, couples, children and adolescents) who are undergoing major life transitions (Adoption, Foster Care Placement, Kinship Care, Divorce and Step-families). She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Georgia State University.

Dr. Hanevold uses an Attachment Focused, Family Centered treatment approach with children, youth, and families struggling with attachment and other disorders related to complex developmental trauma. Her work focuses on building positive and healthy attachments, accepting grief and losses, and helping couples, families, children and youth bloom where they are planted. Dr. Hanevold trains and coaches parents in how to manage challenging behaviors and engage in therapeutic parenting activities. She provides Solution-Focused and Competency-Based treatment.

Couples therapy is Emotionally Focused and is targeted to build a foundation of a deep, love-based and secure connection between partners. Therapy is designed to help couples shape their relationship into a partnership that nourishes and strengthens both partners.

Dr Hanevold is also a popular lecturer and trainer. Her workshops are custom designed to meet the goals and needs of parents, agencies and professionals engaged in the challenge of loving, raising and healing children and teens struggling with attachment and related challenges.

Wendy and her husband of 25 years are parents of two young adults who were internationally adopted as infants. Their son was born in El Salvador, and their daughter was born in India.
